#MeetFrida Art
For VOLTA Basel 2021, #MeetFrida Art presents two female emerging artists who blend classical painting, sculpture, and digital art in groundbreaking novel approaches. The artists, Ju Schnee and Roxanne Sauriol, break with classical perceptions and visual habits, reinterpret artistic traditions and create new digital worlds around their works. #MeetFrida is among only a few galleries worldwide that incorporated NFT-art in their portfolio.
Ju Schnee studied in Graz and now lives in Berlin. She has so far been exhibited primarily in Germany and Austria. Her art merges physical and virtual worlds by transferring digital objects into real life and vice versa. Ju's artworks range from digital animations as NFTs to realistic images in oil, to sculptures.
Roxanne Sauriol is an artist based in Canada whose paintings have been exhibited internationally. While each of her pieces conveys differing personal and existential messages, she describes women as being the common denominator and an extension of herself. Sauriol begins her artistic process by developing concepts before photographing models. These photos serve as a reference for the final composition, which is then executed with oils on wood or canvas – and on NFTs.
#MeetFrida was launched as a novel initiative to promote artists in the changing international art market. The project links the online gallery www.meetfrida.art with art interventions in urban environments, like pop-up galleries, augmented reality exhibitions, billboard expositions, and artist residencies. Today, #MeetFrida is Germany's leading online and outdoor gallery for young art. The gallery's portfolio includes over 70 contemporary artists from Europe and beyond.
