GALERIE THOMAS FUCHS
Stuttgart, Germany
Galerie Thomas Fuchs
At VOLTA Basel 2021, Galerie Thomas Fuchs will show works by five artists from three different generations, who all offer interesting positions in contemporary painting and show how fascinating and fresh the genre can be.
Rainer Fetting (1949) can now look back on a career spanning more than four decades and his works for the fair are inspired by the island of Sylt.
We will also present works by Ruprecht von Kaufmann (1974), who creates complex and mysterious pictorial worlds and has been using colored linoleum instead of canvas as a painting surface in recent years.
Jochen Hein (1960) plays with the illusion of close and far in his land- and waterscapes, which become more and more abstract the closer the viewer approaches.
In the works of South Korean artist Yongchul Kim (1982) the figures almost dissolve into broad and expressive brushstrokes.
The protagonist in the works of Sebastian Gumpinger (1977) is the material. In his "Steel Paintings" series, he uses an angle grinder to draw a continuous line on the surfaces of the steel and copper plates creating a fine, delicate line in whose surface reflects the light.
