Sobering Galerie

Inner Window II By Andréa Breinbaueur, Oil On Canvas, 15 × 20 1:10 in

Stand B10

For Volta Basel, Sobering Galerie offers a journey around light and time, with diverse mediums and supports, ranging from tempera on paper, to oil on canvas, to date stamps. Light is the main component of any work of art. It guides our perception, helps us understand the world around us, and perceive its colors. The artists presented by Sobering Galerie have deeply understood the crucial role of light, as a plastic tool first, but also as a matter to reflect upon. At the center of our exhibition project, stands light. Molded, sculpted, painted, and drawn in an infinity of variations. Light is also intimately linked to the course of time. Used since the dawn of mankind as a tool to measure the passing of hours and days, it still makes it possible today to perceive temporal variations. It is no coincidence that light is used to measure the infinity of time, with “light years” as an example. due to this natural connection, the second major axis of this project is the matter of temporality and how each artist treats passing of time.
