Internationally celebrated Persian artist Alireza Varzandeh’s paintings translate his observations made in public space into seemingly autonomous structures that only develop mimetic properties when seen from a distance. The artist masterfully and subtly maintains the balance between abstraction and figuration in his works.
Much like Leszek Skurski’s paintings, they move between figurative and non-objective abstraction. Skurski’s repeatedly devotes himself to figurative narration in his monochrome paintings. The emptiness surrounding the figures opens up space for contemplation. His works radiate a feeling of balance and calm, their strong point being the atmosphere they create – this is something both artists have in common. They fascinate viewers by contrasting their painterly approach with especially atmospheric themes that are able to trigger emotions in the audience. Skurski was awarded the Polish State Prize for Painting at the age of 22.
