SARADIPOUR Art (SARAI)
SARADIPOUR Art International is pleased to present “No Man’s Land,” a duo presentation by Iranian artists Mahdieh Abolhasan and Abbas Nasle Shamloo where two artists of the same generation offer physically and semantically layered, pathological examinations of our land and humanity’s relationship with the environment from similarity to alienation. In processes involving many layers of constructive and destructive marks, using a muted palette of black, white, and mostly earth tones, both artists offer vistas free from human or animal presence, therefore personifying the landscape itself.
Together, Mahdieh’s “wounded” beings – interactive drawing-sculptures of multiple strata - and Abbas’s painted and drawn twilight, grey landscapes of ethereal yet forbidding beauty, create a hushed atmosphere for meditation and introspection; a mental and physically charged space for the viewers to contemplate on their environment and a chance to connect the nature within and without.
Mahdieh Abolhasan (b. 1980, Iran) is a graphic designer and visual artist based in Tehran. She is a member of the renowned Iranian artist Farhad Gavzan's Drawing House. In 2020, Mahdieh became the winner of the "Khor Art Initiative." Artist and jury member Katie Grinnan particularly praised her works for their layered topographic and historical aspects and the "dynamic nature of the layers," which allowed for shifting forms and structures, creating a complex narrative. She also engages in performance art and land art.
Abbas Nasle Shamloo (b. 1981, Iran) holds an MA in painting from Tehran University. His natures evoke a perpetual sense of loss, loneliness, and alienation. Abbas’s visions are nurtured by long observations and sometimes photography, yet he ultimately prefers to work from memory. He was the selected artist at the 4th Contemporary Iranian Drawing Festival, 2010, and Baharestan Annual Urban Arts Festival, 2018 and 2019.
