GALLERY KOGURE

Gallery Kogure presents new kutani-yaki (Japanese porcelain) works by Yoca Muta at VOLTA Basel 2021.

A ceramic artist of Kutani-yaki, one of Japan's leading porcelain. In her cups and vases formed in a dynamic shape, Yoca Muta draws leafed plants, brightly colored animals, and classic fantasy beasts that stare right into this direction with a full of spirit expression. Her work has basic features of Kutani-yaki, as well as elements of pop culture such as ancient Japanese patterns and themes, western drawings, and contemporary Japanese manga.

Her works are accepted regardless of nationality and has been well received at art fairs and exhibitions both in Japan and overseas. While working on film and installation during her time studying in London, she came to want to create something rooted in her life, and after returning to Japan she studied Kutani-yaki. From her awe and admiration for nature, she forms her current view of the world that reflects her strong curiosity and desire for animals and plants.
